Meghan Markle and Harry’s next interview makes Buckingham sweat

Exiled in the United States for almost a year after slamming the door of the monarchy, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will give their first interview on a prime-time show opposite Oprah Winfrey on March 7. It’s an interview that Buckingham Palace didn’t expect, with no idea what the Sussex couple will reveal on television.

Buckingham feared it, and it is now official. After leaving the UK and drawing a line under their royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will speak for the first time on television in a long interview with Oprah Winfrey, one of the Duchess of Sussex’s very close friends. The interview has obviously not been validated by Buckingham, to whom the Sussex couple are no longer accountable.

The Palace has no idea of the revelations that those who decided to leave the monarchy nearly a year ago to live in Los Angeles, where they are now settled with their son Archie, and where they will welcome their second child in a few months. “The Duke and Duchess are no longer active members of the royal family. Therefore, the commitments they make to the media are their problem,” said a source close to the Palace.

“You only have to look at how the previous confessional interviews went to understand that these things never end on a positive note for all the parties involved,” other royal sources added, assuring that there will be “a lot of nervousness” on the part of the Palace when the Sussex interview is broadcast.

After long being forced into silence by their position in the British Crown, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer inclined to remain silent, as was Princess Diana, who also gave a shocking interview twenty-five years ago. According to reports in the American media, the Duchess of Sussex will first look back on her life in the royal family, her marriage, her humanitarian work, motherhood and the pressure of the media. Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey will then be joined by Prince Harry.

Sussex freer than ever

Freedom has a price, which Sussex’s husbands did not hesitate to pay. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made enormous sacrifices when they left the UK, sometimes alienating family members, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, with whom relations have been strained for several months. Archie’s parents have been freed from their royal duties and are finally able to live as they wish, having expressed their discomfort in the South African documentary, in which the Duchess of Sussex found it difficult to hold back her tears.
