Harry: childhood friend punished for expressing “doubts” about Meghan Markle

According to the biography Finding Freedom, quoted by The Daily Mail this Sunday, August 9, Prince Harry punished a childhood friend. Tom Inskip had expressed doubts about his relationship with Meghan Markle.

Out of love for Meghan Markle, Prince Harry will do anything. In their biography devoted to Sussex entitled Finding Freedom – a book quoted by the British tabloid The Daily Mail and The Sunday Telegraph this Sunday, August 9 – journalist Omid Scobie and producer Carolyn Durand reveal that the grandson of Elizabeth II had in particular proved his devotion to the former actress by punishing a childhood friend.

Namely, Tom Inskip (nicknamed “Skippy”), whom she met at Eton College in Berkshire. The two men were inseparable during their school years, but their friendship was touched when Tom Inskip expressed doubts about his friend’s relationship with the duchess, advising him to live with her for a while before “doing something more serious.”

The consequences were radical. Tom Inskip and his wife Lara were banned from the lovebirds’ wedding party at Frogmore House. A major affront since Prince Harry had been able to attend the wedding of his sidekick with his belle in 2017, one of their first appearances together.

“It really hurt him that someone he was so close to didn’t trust his judgment,” a source close to Prince Harry told the authors of Finding Freedom. It took much more, however, to end his friendship with Tom Inskip, with whom the young father shared some of the most memorable and sometimes embarrassing moments for the Crown.

The two men, who had been on the outskirts for a year because of this misunderstanding, finally reconciled in July 2019, after the death of Tom Inskip’s mother-in-law. She was suffering from serious psychological problems, which the younger son of Prince Charles and Lady Diana is aware of.

“Harry has decided to leave the past behind,” a source told The Mirror. But while lifelong friends have made up for it, the Duke of Sussex is struggling to reconnect with another man who is dear to him: his older brother.

Prince William also worried

When Prince Harry announced his intention to marry Meghan Markle, Prince William also expressed his reservations. “William was very concerned that the relationship had evolved so quickly,” said journalist Katie Nicholl in the documentary Princesses At War.

Again, the message was not well received. “What was supposed to be well-meaning brotherly advice simply annoyed Harry.” The bond between the two brothers was weakened, as tensions gradually led to the Sussex’s sudden departure from the Firm, announced in January 2020. After several cold months, and while Prince Harry is leading a new life in Los Angeles, they are trying to move on, not without difficulty.
