On 12 June, Queen Elizabeth II will hold her traditional Trooping the Colour parade on her birthday. An event she is looking forward to, to finally reunite with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The beginning of 2021 is a particularly trying time for the United Kingdom. On 4 January last, Boris Johnson announced the total reconfinement of the country, as early as that evening, with much more restrictive measures than last November.
This third isolation will last until mid-February, in order to counteract the soaring number of cases of Covid-19 contamination. In this particular context, Queen Elizabeth II recently decided to cancel all the garden parties that were to take place in 2021.
And yet there is a tradition that the 94-year-old sovereign does not wish to cancel. According to the Sunday Times, the Queen of England plans to hold a Trooping the Colour parade for her upcoming 95th birthday.
The event will take place on 12 June, two days after Prince Philip’s 100th birthday. It will be the first royal and national celebration since the start of the health crisis, reports the Mirror. According to the tabloid, Queen Elizabeth II wants to “resume service” before the 12 June celebration. She will blow out her 95th candle on 21 April.
The return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
The Trooping the Colour parade had been cancelled in 2020, but took place the year before, on 8 June 2019. The entire British Royal Family had gathered around Queen Elizabeth II to officially celebrate her 93rd birthday, except for Prince Philip who was absent.
So for this Trooping the Colour 2021 parade, all members of the family should be reunited again. The occasion for the Queen of England to meet Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whom she has not seen since the Megxit. The couple are expected to make their first official appearance in the UK since the Commonwealth Day celebrations on 9 March 2020.
Prince Andrew discarded
Prince Andrew, involved in an international sex scandal, is not yet said to be on board. The Queen’s third son was forced to resign from his position in the British monarchy after accusations of sexual assault on underage girls. In addition to this family reunion, the Trooping the Colour parade will be an opportunity for the Queen to return to London to attend the first major national event since the start of the pandemic.
The Queen and her husband Prince Philipp, both vaccinated against the coronavirus, have been placed in solitary confinement at Windsor Castle. The royal couple have not returned to Buckingham Palace since March. Last year, the scale of the military parade had been significantly reduced due to the virus.
“For the time being, the plan is to hold the Queen’s birthday parade in London, as usual, with the idea that it may be adapted or reduced according to the health measures imposed at the time,” a representative of the royal family told the Sunday Times.
